The St. Olga Uprising was a short-lived rebellion that began on the 11th of December when the Federation of Mutualists and Agrarians declared their independence as a commune in St. Olga, a settlement in Faru's far east.
Context
The Federation had been growing in membership and popularity in Faru. They vouched for left wing and radical ideas which caused tensions with the largely liberal and conservative government. During the October elections, the Mutualist candidate, Ljuba Milenkovic, won the campaign for the presidency. Later, Melekhov, another Mutualist, became the Minister of Defense of the government. Despite popular support for Melekhov from the military that he was in the process of reorganizing, the combined administration of Milenkovic and Melekhov was seen as far too radical. This led to the resignation of the President, and the Minister of Defense being sacked from government in favor of a Minister that was part of the senate majority party.
Shortly after the sacking of Melekhov, there was a conflict between Melekhov and the new Minister of Defense regarding the proper ownership of a naval destroyer. Melekhov, having been solely responsible for the ship's construction, funding, and armament, believed it to be in his ownership, although he was willing to sell it back to the government with compensation for his work. The new Minister of Defense, S'yera Volchok, argued that because the ship was used exclusively by the Farun Navy for naval exercises, the ship is de facto the property of the Farun military. This incident, along with a recent terrorist attack from ex-General Keaton, led the Federation to the far east in a small villa named St. Olga. In this villa the Federation established a commune. They declared their independence on the 11th of December, citing past radical revolutions.
Uprising
Though the communards declared their peaceful intentions, the media and government saw it as a insurrection and reacted as such.
Interior Campaign of the 11th
The day of the declaration, the government organized the Farun Armed Forces and raised Militias to put down the independent commune at St. Olga. The Defense Minister that replaced Melekhov, S'yerra Volchok, led the campaign. With the Federation under the expectation that the military was arriving at St. Olga to bargain for the ship, the troops approached with no resistance. The fighting began once the soldiers emerged from the St. Olga cavern and announced their attack. As soon as the attack began, Melekhov, seeing that the deal had fallen through, decided to scuttle his last bargaining chip: the naval destroyer. Shortly after the fighting started, Volchok lost control of the militia. Chaos followed as Farun soldiers, Novogradian mercenaries, and Gleek vagrants began looting and pillaging the settlement. In the fog of the battle, the communards were able to escape without any losses. After much of St. Olga was destroyed and the soldiers left, the communards returned. News of the campaign was ridiculed by the press for not accomplishing much aside from destroying infrastructure and leading to the destruction of the nation's only military naval vessel. Following the battle, the communards started slowly rebuilding and reorganizing the commune. After the failed Interior Campaign, members of the Federation began discussing taking defensive measures to secure their existence.
