There were no districting changes prior to the election of this senate. No party reached a majority in this senate, but thanks to a short lived Whig and Libertarian arrangement, the New Laborites managed to form a minority government. This senate was the first time in Farun senatorial history where the Liberal-Conservative Party was not in government.

The 5th Farun Senate was elected following the dissolution of the 4th Senate by president John McHale, and thus all the senators were replaced, though some winning re-election. During this term, the district 3 and 6 senators, the former districts election being scheduled for the next elections and the latter having a by-election a few days before them, ending the term with a single vacancy.

Due to the special circumstances of this senate, southern senators were to serve a shortened term, as the August Elections were still to be held at their normal schedule, while the northern senators were to serve an also shortened albeit longer term until the scheduled September Elections.

Change in Membership

On July 29, senator Zalix Anderson fled the country following a controversy and was presumed dead, vacating his seat, which was not replaced until the following senate election. A few days later, then premier Ljuba Milenkovic stepped down, vacating her seat. A by-election was scheduled for August 3 and the vacancy was filled by the 6th, right before the southern circuit elections.
