The July 2024 Senate Snap Elections were held from July 18 to July 19, 2024, to elect all of the seven Farun Senators. They were held following the dissolution of the Farun Senate by then former president John McHale.
The elections were a crushing defeat for the incumbent Liberal-Conservative Party, losing long time strongholds such as the northeastern frontier (district 7) to New Labor, and the rural south (district 3) to the Libertarian Party. Meanwhile on the left, New Farun Labor saw the first major socialist electoral success since the very first senate election, sweeping the western coast and the previously mentioned northeastern frontier.
Background
The Republic of Faru does not have any general elections, rather electing senators in two halves every month. However it is possible for the President of the Republic of Faru to dissolve the Senate, which is what caused this election. In a scheme to undermine the Liberal-Conservative Party, president John McHale dissolved the Senate, hoping to forge an alliance with the Libertarian Party and the left wing of the Liberal-Conservatives and create a Liberal Party. The plan unfortunately backfired when he lost the election, leading to him dissolving the Reform Party and leaving faru to travel.
Results
The incumbent Liberal-Conservatives lost a seat, while New Farun Labor gained two, making it the biggest party in the Senate and giving it a mandate to form a government.
