The Eastern Regional Assembly is the sole legislative body of the Eastern Region.

The Regional Assembly is a democratically elected body whose members are known as Members of the Regional Assembly (or MRAs). There are currently five MRAs who are elected for terms of eight weeks via a [block voting] system in a single at large constituency.

The Regional Assembly and its powers are established by title three article one of the Eastern Constitution, it is in charge of legislating within the bounds of the Eastern Region.

Membership

Members of the Regional Assembly are elected for a term of two months. Seats are apportioned via the population of the Region, with one seat per ten people.

Leadership

The Eastern Regional Assembly does not have any formal leadership role, though it is typical for it to pick a Speaker who presides over the meetings. The Speaker of the assembly does not hold any formal power, and simply leads and organizes the meetings of the Regional Assembly.
