Alexei Popović is a priest, Commissioner of Statpol, and President of the New Conservative Party. He was also the Minister of the Interior during the Sobczyk Administration. He first gained prominence during his campaign for presidency in 1925 running as the Faru in the Stars! candidate.
Backstory
Born the middle child of a traditional Farun family in a farmhouse near Khenozhuryvka, Alexei grew up with little expected of him. When he turned 10 his family sent him to study in a Cubeaist church in Khenozhuryvka to become a priest, where he met Volha Pollak fiddling with pieces of scrap metal and glass outside the church, she claimed it was a telescope but to Alexei it just looked like rubbish. Alexei was intrigued by this kid, although he did not share her fascination with astronomy, her interest was almost contagious, she became the closest thing to a friend Alexei had.
As Alexei and Volha matured ,so did their conversations. Volha would ask questions like "why have we not tried going to space" or "How come recently I could almost afford a telescope, but now I can barely afford to eat" and so Alexei would ask his priest and when that answer didn't satisfy them, he'd ask his parents. Although Volha was always more skeptical of the information she was told than Alexei, the two formed their understanding of politics this way.
However with maturity, Alexei also began to make uncomfortable realisations, Alexei thought of his position in his family, that in their eyes he amounted to little more than his brother's assistant. He thought of his position in the country, that despite his family's hard work, his family faded into the background and their voice became increasingly less important. He thought of his country's position how they never amounted to more than a footnote in the history books of the world. This inspired him and Pollak to enter Political Sphere as they created the Faru in the Stars! Party
1926 Presidential election
Since Volha Pollak's election, Popović had mostly been working alongside Pollak to negotiate an opposition to the Liberal-Conservative Party's supermajority. Struggling to find any common ground with the independent senators, there is some evidence of a connection between FitS! and Æsël Blanch, however, it seemingly amounted to little.
Alexei Popović ran for the presidential election of 1926, primarily in an attempt to gain popularity and increase membership for the Faru in the Stars! Party. Despite finding little success on either of his objectives, Popović gained the attention of the conservative caucus of the Liberal-Conservative Party. Ultimately garnering 4 votes from his performance and positions during the presidential debate.
Following Popović's removal from the presidential race, Faru in the Stars! began negotiating a merger with the Liberal-Conservative Party with member of the Conservative caucus. In 1926 FitS! officially joined the Conservative caucus of the Liberal-Conservative Party. Despite initial hostilities, Popović managed to garner enough trust among the LibCons as to be appointed Minister of the Interior
