The Whig Party was a regionalist party in the south of Faru with its headquarters in Liberty City. Despite its small membership, it remained relevant in Farun politics for several months, often being a kingmaker in the Senate.
History
The origins of the Whig Party are nebulous, with the only real member for most of it's history being Zeek Quintus. It became known to most Faruns after the May 2024 Senate Elections, and lingered on as Liberty City kept voting for it.
Liberal-Conservative Alliance (May - July 2024)
During its early days, the Whig Party allied with the Liberal-Conservative Party, often voting alongside it, however strongly advocating for Liberty City's regional currency, the Denarius. The liberal-conservatives originally opposed the denarius, however accepted to make it legal tender in exchange for confidence and supply, an arrangement that stayed in place until the 5th Senate.
Neo-Laborite Alliance (July 2024)
Following Liberal-Conservative talks of ending the legal tender status of the Denarius, the Whigs decided to end their alliance with them and got into a coalition with New Farun Labor. This era was uneventful, with the whig senator always voting in line with their coalition partner, with their only demand as always being the continuation of the denarius' legal tender status.
Demise
The Whig Party stopped existing following the August 2024 Senate Elections, where Zeek Quintus was kicked out of the senate in favor of then Shield Party-aligned Cranberry. The party was never heard of following this and never ran in an election ever again.
Policies
Liberty City Expansionism
The Whig Party supported the expansion of the nation's borders in order to favor Liberty City, submitting a bill to annex an island dubbed "the rock" which was settled by libertins.
Denarius
The most consistent whig policy was the establishment and continuation of the Liberty City Denarius' legal status. The party would often threaten and did break alliances based on this, and until its demise remained adamant about it.
