The 1923 Homeless Rebellion, also known as the Urbis Bum Revolt, was a short-lived event headed by Koi Goodfox in August of 1923. It was the defining event for Koi's character and Foxcubensis's debut scheme.
Background & Motivation
Foxcubensis (Sierra) had just joined the server on August 2024 after having an urge to rejoin Infaru after a long hiatus from being Infaru 2's left hand admin. Koi Goodfox was their first character, a scheming loose cannon, mostly a short-sighted character and a joke as Fox didn't expect to stay on Infaru for long.
After Sierra joined the server, they went north to find a new home only to find out it was completely inhabited. When inquiring server members on where they could stay, they were told that Urbis City was the best candidate for their new home - so they traveled south and were amazed at the level of construction and the quality of buildings done, praising Renarchat on enabling such a thriving server. Seeing the level of development in Urbis City encouraged her to stay on the server.
After arriving at Urbis City, Koi Goodfox would struggle to find a place to live, as many plots were taken up and Novak was not available to sell Goodfox a plot of land.
Construction of the camp
Koi Goodfox would find that sending a political message would be the best course of action to solve their housing crisis (and make a name for themselves again after a hiatus) - and on August 26th, they would build a shantytown on Parliament's front lawn, built from stolen materials such as spruce and wool from unlocked chests surrounding Urbis and Providence.
The Shantytown, formally known as the "Infaru Atonymous Zone (sic)", would serve not only as a temporary home, but a way to deliver her political message as well, and other (fictional) unhoused people would join suit, forming the rag-tag group "The Boxcars".
The Lynching
The Lynching by de-facto private and government forces occurred mere hours after the Infaru Atonymous Zone's construction, with members of the mob including Johnathan Kurt Godfrey, Av Rosting, and Joe Farmer. The lynching would conclude in an invasion and partial destruction of Koi Goodfox's primary residence, with Koi being sent unconscious to the hospital after attempting to punch one of the mob members out of her home.
Rebellion & Demands
Demands
Soon after the Infaru Atonymous Zone was formed, approximately one day after, Koi Goodfox would make a speech, stating the Boxcar's Demands:
- A luxury "hoboplex" built in the heart of Urbis, with "a wet bar, a chicken coop filled with hens that lay soft boiled eggs, warm beds, handouts so plentiful they grow on bushes, and train tracks near moments away"
- A budget allocated to renovating Urbis' Nationalized Housing with quartz and air fresheners.
- Classification of unhoused people as a protected disabled class
- Welfare for the unhoused
- A bench on every street, and a sign for every beggar
- The complete and total abolishment of an honest day's work.
These demands would be a common theme of the rebellion, and the boxcars would picket and protest throughout the following days to the downfall.
Armament by the Apes
A short alliance with the Apes during the Farun Bush War led to the Boxcars obtaining high-powered Netherite armor and weapons.
Presidency stint
Koi Goodfox would cast their name in the September 1924 Presidential elections as a joke, to be a "Vermin Supreme"-esque character, and would also build a children's hospital in the shantytown as a way to give it more credibility and "make it a war crime to destroy it.". The election would end up rather successful in the September 2024 Presidential Election First Round.
Opposition
Many Faruns were vocally opposed, hurling epithets such as "bum" and phrases such as "get a job", assaulting Boxcar members, giving anti-homeless pamphlets and a variety of other "hate crimes". On a few occasions, Faruns, particularly members of the Urbis People's Militia, would fire guns from rooftops into the camp and at Boxcar members.
Downfall & Destruction
The Mayor of Urbis City at the time, Aleksandr Novak, would eventually get tired of the shantytown, and on August 30th, 1923, would destroy the shantytown with government forces while Koi Goodfox peacefully complied, placing the items in chests. Premier Novak would end up giving Koi a free plot of land as a concession, where Koi promised to build a "1.2 million Lira abortion-plex"
Arrest of Koi Goodfox & Cranberry Lawsuit
Days after the downfall of the Boxcars and the shanty town, Senator and Farun Army Member Francis Urquhart (Cranberry), in collaboration with Judge Beavis, would attempt to serve Koi Goodfox with an arrest warrant for trespassing and rioting, among other things. The arrest surprisingly yielded universal backlash and was received as an attempt of election interference and extrajudicial punishment. The warrant would be revoked by the court, and Francis would be dishonorably discharged from the Farun military, with reasoning also being the P7/24 (July 24th Project) campaign to overthrow President Victor.
Common themes for backlash against the arrest included:
- Francis waited IRL days post-downfall to arrest Koi Goodfox for the shantytown; after a large character arc from Koi Goodfox into an upstanding CEO and Presidential candidate, and after a de facto conclusion to the event (Koi abandoning the town and Novak giving Koi land in Urbis),
- The warrant was delivered directly after a presidential debate where Koi Goodfox was a participant,
- No one had heard of the arrest warrant, not even the Chief Justice Loga Dukakis, and the judge who approved it resigned immediately after.
Once Koi Goodfox was appointed censor, a lawsuit was served to Francis. The lawsuit went nowhere due to holes in OOC-IC rules, misguidance from the Chief Justice, and crimes not being properly defined in the Penal Code.
Aftermath of events
- Koi Goodfox would serve as Censor for a short period of time.
- Koi Goodfox's joke Presidential campaign would actually lead to her WINNING the 1st round September 2024 Presidential Election First Round in a majority, kicking the Liberal-Conservative Party's Presidential candidate Andrej Sobczyk out of the race, but would subsequently lose in the runoff to Av Rosting of the New Farun Labor party.
- The ill children that resided at St. Goodfox Memorial Hospital would end up being aborted.
- Francis Urquhart as a character would end up dying in a fight regarding a plot by Koi Goodfox to plagiarize a book.
- Koi Goodfox would end up dying intentionally and was replaced by Kino Volchok; as Foxcubensis put it, "i prefer making movies and being a more serious chracter. the goofy hobo rebellion backstory shit needed to go".
- The events of 31 Fox Street and Goodfox Incorporated would occur primarily due to Novak's land donation to Koi as a concession. Kino-Film would follow soon.
