Gameplay

From Infarupedia

Starting in Infaru 5, the core gameplay loop is significantly different than vanilla Minecraft. As the Lore Primer and Professions System discuss, certain crafting recipes and abilities normally allowed to players by default are locked behind professions. This article was made to address concerns of players that don't know how to start and fill in the blanks. If you are new to the server, please make a character declaration on the Infaru forums. An approved character declaration is required to be whitelisted on the server.

Overview

Fundamentally, Infaru 5 is different from the vast majority of other Minecraft servers. Typically, players can expect to run off to the far reaches of the planet, be self-sufficient, and come together only for big events like killing the Ender Dragon before they burn out after two weeks. To combat this cycle, and to add an element of realism to Infaru 5, players cannot live as a master of all trades. Just like you wouldn't see a professional chef out in the forest hacking down a tree, or a farmer swinging a pickaxe in a strip mine, no individual player can gather or craft every resource by themselves. Trade with other players is required to survive on Infaru 5, and the key to success is to produce as much of your specialized products as you can, and then trading your surplus material for the surplus of others.

Infaru 5 is a server whose foundation is the practice of logistics. A player can expect to live in a house built by their local town's carpenter using wood bought from Reauce and stones from Tal-Sharir, while surviving off food harvested from and cooked in the Crownlands, and making a living by forging tools from Daaracari ore and selling them to workers in Nechar-Icain. Moving supplies is the means by which people survive and thrive in Carpesia, and it is absolutely imperative for your survival to connect to the trade network and find a reliable niche in the market.

Trade Between Players

Trade routes over land need to be constructed by players (see Infrastructure), but trade routes over the seas between port cities can be accessed by any merchant with a naval vessel. Ranging from simple boat chests to entire Movecraft boats carrying loads of cargo, trade by the seas is vital for moving supplies around the archipelago. Upon server launch, the islands already had three port cities; Sinos, Tumul, and Vidinia. While it's possible to travel and sell one's own products, that is often too time consuming for most producers to find palatable. An economic niche for merchants also arises; those who take on the work of moving supplies from supplier to consumer. For their work, merchants find themselves in the unique position to control the market rates, and will often sell their supplies to consumers for more than they purchased them.

International Trade

There are two trading posts in the waters surrounding the Carpesian Archipelago. Being able to trade with Yeliccia and Pastiche, merchants can use these trading posts to acquire items that are unobtainable by normal players such as materials exclusive to the Nether and End dimensions. Merchants can also sell supplies to these foreign nations for payment in Carpesian Gilders or gold. Utilizing these trading posts is essential for savvy merchants who are seeking more competitive player markets or who have more supply of a good than there is demand for it in Carpesia.

Professions

Professions are the primary way in which players form and interact with the economy. Shops using the SignShops plugin are critical in maintaining a functioning economy when professionals are not online.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you can’t craft or otherwise manufacture something, it’s most likely related to the professions plugin! Specialized crafting is restricted to certain professions, and each profession will unlock certain recipes as they level up over time! The Professions Article has links to all of the different professions’ leveling information!

Custom Crafting Recipes

To make the game more interesting for players with professions, some professions have access to unique recipes that normally aren't accessible in Minecraft. For example, all armor trims can now be crafted by the Artisan profession.

Seasons

The Carpesian Archipelago features all kinds of weather in the form of seasons. It also includes its own temperature system, which can harm the player at extreme levels. Practice common sense; avoid standing next to heat sources such as lava for too long especially in the summer, try to cool off by drinking water and wearing the right gear, and keep warm during the winters by keeping indoors with a campfire or torches.

Disease

In the world of Infaru, disease is a common issue. Staying out too long in the cold, drinking unclean water, or catching something from others will bring disease on players. Cures can be made to stop the disease, and players can build an immunity to most diseases over time. It's recommended to cure players as soon as possible before the contagion spreads, as the price to cure them all can become overwhelming quickly.

Brewing

Brewing is no longer restricted to magical potions in Infaru. A variety of new drinks can be brewed and distilled, including many forms of alcohol. Some teas are preferred for Čajra rituals and provide some minor psychoactive effects.

Weaponry and Warfare

In the 18th century, weapons have surpassed simple swords, shields, axes, and bows. Players can make a variety of new weapons, including but not limited to longswords, knives, spears, and rapiers. They each have their own bonuses and drawbacks.

Infrastructure

Certain pathway blocks, such as dirt paths and bricks, allow players to move faster than before when traversed. This is meant to replace past iterations use of "fast rails", and is also an alternative to other forms of travel that Minecraft players may be used to, such as elytra travel or iceboat travel. Additionally, the Movecraft mod is added to allow players to build small or large sea vessels to set sail around the islands. These ships are critical for trading large amounts of items.

The Nether and the End

In the Infaru world, the Nether and the End do not exist, or at the very least are not accessible in Carpesia. In return, players are able to buy building materials that would normally be found in the Nether and the End from trading posts located in the north-western and south-eastern corners of the map.

Starting Out

At the very start, no matter what profession or origin you choose, it's possible that you will start entirely alone. Without other players around, your access into the economy is extremely limited, and you won't be able to do much. However, some recipes have been added explicitly to assist the early game when critical professions are missing.

The following recipes are available to all professions:
